In addition to a donation of some 300 joints and other fittings for leg prosthetics, two medi employees from Bayreuth spent several weeks on the Caribbean island helping victims of the earthquake.
Bernhard Kastner and his colleague Carsten Stauf of medi worked for two weeks with an aid program in Haiti in cooperation with the Ivan R. Sabel Foundation. The two orthopedic technicians assisted the rehabilitation center of the Albert Schweizer Hospital (HAS) in Deschapelles, providing prosthetics for Haitians who had had amputations after the massive earthquake in January 2010. They made plaster casts, built prosthetics, made technical adjustments, and helped people take their first steps with their new leg prosthetics.
